Choose PixlQR when the QR code itself is a business asset. Create a styled campaign link or a purpose-built scan experience for a menu, PDF, WiFi network or contact card; then manage dynamic codes and scans after printing. The Canva QR code generator can place a static or editable dynamic URL code inside a design. The buying question is what the scan must do for your customer and your team.
Disclosure. PixlQR publishes this comparison and sells one of the products in it. Canva details below come from Canva's own help and pricing pages, checked on 20 September 2026. Product plans change, sometimes by region, so confirm the current Canva entitlement in your account before relying on this article.
At a glance
- Start with the scan experience. PixlQR has 24 active QR types, including dedicated menu, file, WiFi, contact, review and feedback flows—not just a URL field.
- Design and manage the QR itself. Choose its colours and patterns, preview it, then keep a dynamic code's destination, status and scan history in one dashboard.
- Free analytics are basic. PixlQR Free shows total scans, unique scans and a timeline for dynamic codes. Country/device breakdowns, the live map, comparisons and exports require Plus or the seven-day trial.
- Canva can make static and dynamic URL QR codes. Its QR Insights and some branding controls are plan-gated, and its wider strength is designing the document around a code.
- Practical choice: build the right QR solution in PixlQR, test it on a phone, and place the finished code wherever your campaign needs it.
What is the difference between a QR in a design and a QR solution?
The printed square is only the entry point. The harder questions are what a scan opens, whether that experience needs a file or a landing page, who can update it after printing, and how you will know it was used.
Canva's QR tool starts inside a design. It can make a fixed URL code or a Dynamic QR Code with an editable link. PixlQR starts with the purpose of the scan. A restaurant can choose an existing menu link or a hosted menu file; a business can share a PDF through a landing page; a guest network can use a direct WiFi code or a credential page. Dynamic codes then have a dashboard record for their status, destination and scan activity.
This does not mean every PixlQR code needs every feature. A static code is sometimes the right answer. The advantage is choosing the behaviour that fits the job before you print, rather than treating every QR as the same link inside different artwork.
How do Canva and PixlQR compare feature by feature?
Canva's current QR behaviour is described on its official Create and manage QR codes help page. Canva says it offers a fixed static URL code and a Dynamic QR Code whose link can be updated later. Dynamic QR Codes are available on web and mobile in supported markets.
| QR job | Canva | PixlQR |
|---|---|---|
| Create a basic static URL code | Yes, inside the design editor, without a Canva logo | Yes, with QR styling and download |
| Edit a URL after printing | Yes, for a Dynamic QR Code | Yes, for a dynamic URL code; other dynamic types have their own editable content |
| Choose what the scan experience does | URL-based QR inside a design | 24 active types with purpose-built forms and, where appropriate, landing pages |
| Customise the QR | Dynamic codes support colours, patterns, corners and plan-dependent logos | Foreground/background colours, six dot patterns and three corner styles; custom logo on trial/Plus |
| Logo inside a dynamic URL QR | Canva logo by default on Free and Pro; removing it or adding your own requires Business, Enterprise or Nonprofit | No required centre logo; adding your own requires trial or Plus |
| Measure scans | Insights for new Dynamic QR Codes on Business, Enterprise and Nonprofits | Basic totals, unique scans and timeline on Free; detailed breakdowns, map, comparisons and export on Plus/trial |
| Manage the code after launch | Edit a dynamic URL in its design; eligible plans add expiry and collaborator controls | A QR dashboard for destination, status and scan history; folders where the plan allows |
| Design and collaboratively edit a complete poster or flyer | Canva's strength | Not a page-layout or team-design tool |
For a QR that needs its own scan experience and life after printing, PixlQR is the more relevant product to evaluate. Canva's own QR documentation confirms the static-versus-dynamic logo distinction and its plan-dependent controls; check your current entitlement before printing a campaign around them. PixlQR Free can show branding on scan landing pages, which is separate from placing a logo inside the QR graphic.
Does "dynamic QR code" mean the same thing in both?
Both products use a managed link so a dynamic URL destination can change without replacing the printed code. Canva lets the code's owner edit that URL from the design; on eligible plans, the owner can also allow collaborators to edit it and set an expiry. PixlQR keeps each dynamic QR as a dashboard asset with its type-specific content, destination, status and scan history. Canva's editable URL is real, but it is not the same range of menu, file, WiFi, contact and feedback scan experiences.
When is a design tool enough on its own?
If the QR is a one-off link to a stable URL, you need no QR-specific scan reporting, and the main task is collaborative page layout or print ordering, an in-editor code may be enough. PixlQR does not offer team seats or a full poster-design canvas. Those are honest limits, but they do not determine how to build a menu, file, WiFi or trackable campaign QR.
What can a purpose-built PixlQR QR solution do?
PixlQR starts with the task behind the scan. Its 24 active types are not 24 colours for a link; they ask for different information and can produce different scan experiences:
- Restaurant menu: link to an existing menu page or upload a menu file or images. A dynamic menu code gives the restaurant a managed destination it can change when the menu changes.
- PDF or other file: use an existing file URL or upload a file; choose a landing page with a preview and download, or send visitors directly to the file. This is a file-delivery decision, not a poster-design setting.
- WiFi: a static code can carry network credentials for a direct phone connection. A dynamic WiFi code opens a credential landing page that needs internet access and shows the current network details. It does not revoke access from someone who already knows the password.
- Contact details: vCard Plus gives a person or business a dedicated contact experience rather than sending every scan to a generic website.
- Customer feedback: a visitor can tap a sentiment on a feedback landing page and be routed to a corresponding URL, or see the built-in thank-you screen when no destination is configured.
The QR-type selector below is the start of that workflow. Choose the problem first, then fill in the fields and inspect the live preview for that type.

The difference is visible after a scan, too. This demo dynamic WiFi code opens a credential page with the current network details; a static WiFi code instead sends the credentials directly to the phone. The landing page requires internet access and does not revoke credentials a guest already knows.

Can you customise the QR code itself?
Yes. PixlQR's Customize Design section lets you set foreground and background colours, choose among six dot patterns and three corner styles, and check the result in a live preview. Custom logo upload is available on the initial trial and Plus. You can build a recognisable QR without treating the QR as a fixed black-and-white object inside another editor.

Keep the result scannable: use strong contrast, preserve the quiet zone, and test the downloaded code at its actual print size. A design that looks good on a large monitor is not proof that a phone can scan it from a table or shop window.
What can you manage and measure after printing?
A dynamic PixlQR code has a managed short link. Where that code goes can be updated according to its QR type without changing the printed pattern; its dashboard also shows its status and scan history. A static code directly encodes its content. It has no managed redirect, cannot be edited after printing and does not collect PixlQR scan analytics. Choose based on what must happen after the print run, not because “dynamic” sounds more advanced.
PixlQR Free includes basic analytics for dynamic codes: total scans, unique scans and scans over time. The seven-day trial and Plus add detailed country and device views, the live map, comparisons and export. Raw scan records are kept for 180 days, with daily aggregates retained beyond that window.
Watch out for
This screenshot was captured in a trial/Plus analytics view. On Free, only Total Scans, Unique Scans and Scans Over Time are available; the country, device and other advanced panels visible here are not Free features.

A dynamic code also depends on PixlQR's pxqr.io redirect service and its active account status. If you need a provider-independent, unchanging payload instead, use a static code and accept that you cannot redirect or measure it later.
How do Canva and PixlQR pricing compare?
Canva Free includes a static URL code and a dynamic URL code with Canva's logo. Canva Pro still does not unlock QR Insights or removal of that logo; those controls require Business, Enterprise or an eligible Nonprofit account. On Canva's US annual pricing page checked on 20 September 2026, Pro is US$144 per person per year and Business is US$250 per person per year. Those are design-suite subscriptions, not QR-only plans; region, billing term and eligibility can change the price.
PixlQR Free supports two active dynamic codes and unlimited static codes, with QR styling and the basic dynamic-scan metrics above. You can test a managed QR workflow without entering a card. Plus starts at $9 per month, or $72 per year ($6 per month billed annually), for ten active dynamic codes. It adds advanced analytics views, export, vector downloads, custom logo upload and branding removal. Higher dynamic-code allowances have their own pricing.
Compare the cost with the actual QR job: how many printed codes must stay active, what should each scan open, which codes will need changes, and which scan reports do you need? Both products can update a dynamic URL without reprinting. PixlQR's value is its wider range of scan experiences and dedicated QR management, not a claim that Canva cannot edit a link. Check the current PixlQR pricing and Canva's current plan terms before purchasing.
How do you take a PixlQR QR from idea to print?
- Choose the QR type for the job: URL, menu, file, WiFi, contact, or another purpose-built option.
- Choose static or dynamic where that type allows it. If you need later changes or scan analytics, use dynamic.
- Configure the scan experience, customise the QR design, and inspect its preview.
- Save the code, download it, and scan a printed proof on a phone at the size and distance customers will use.
- For a dynamic code, monitor its scans and update its managed content or destination when the campaign changes.
Free accounts export PNG. Vector SVG and PDF export are available during the seven-day trial and on Plus. If a printer requires vector artwork, settle that before the trial ends or use a PNG large enough for the final print size. You can place the downloaded QR in Canva or any other layout tool if you also need a poster or flyer; PixlQR remains the system that manages the QR.
Can you transfer an already printed dynamic QR to PixlQR?
Usually not without replacing the printed pattern. A dynamic code from another provider encodes that provider's managed address; importing its image into PixlQR cannot transfer control of the redirect or its analytics. The same limitation works in reverse. Keep an existing printed code until a natural reprint, then create its replacement in PixlQR, print a proof and phone-test it before swapping the material.
Which should you choose for your QR project?
PixlQR is the stronger fit when the QR must deliver a purpose-built scan experience or you want a dedicated place to manage the code and its scans. Canva is the stronger fit when the main job is designing and collaboratively producing the poster, flyer or other artwork around a URL QR. Both can update a dynamic URL; PixlQR goes further with menu, file, WiFi, contact and feedback workflows, while Canva offers the broader design and print workflow.
The tool below previews a URL code only. Its on-page preview is static and does not record scans. Save it to a free PixlQR account to create the managed code, then explore the other QR types and design controls in the dashboard. No card is required to start.
Frequently asked questions
If Canva can edit a dynamic URL, why choose PixlQR? Canva can update a dynamic URL from its design. PixlQR is useful when the QR is more than a URL inside artwork: it offers purpose-built menu, file, WiFi, contact and feedback experiences, QR styling, and a dedicated dashboard for dynamic code status and scan history. You can download the QR for any layout; PixlQR does not replace a full poster-design tool.
What can PixlQR create besides a website-link QR? PixlQR offers 24 active types, including restaurant menus, uploaded or linked files, WiFi credentials, vCard Plus contacts and sentiment-based feedback. Each type has its own inputs and scan experience. Select the type based on what the customer should do after scanning, then check its preview before publishing.
Can I change a PixlQR QR after it has been printed? Only a dynamic code has a managed destination or content that can be updated without replacing the printed pattern, subject to that type's editing controls and the code remaining active. Static codes directly encode their data, so changing them requires a new code and a reprint.
Which PixlQR analytics are actually free? PixlQR Free shows total scans, unique scans and a scan timeline for dynamic codes. It does not unlock the detailed country and device breakdowns, live map, comparisons or export; those belong to the initial seven-day trial and Plus. Static codes do not produce PixlQR scan analytics.
Can I style the QR itself in PixlQR? Yes. Customize Design provides foreground and background colours, six dot patterns, three corner styles and a live preview. Custom logo upload is available on the initial trial and Plus. Download the QR and phone-test it at its intended print size before distribution.
